2010 Front Engine Dragster Week 2010 02 06

Remember to Click Pictures for More Detail / Larger Picture

This is my second trip out to see the dragster (I need a name, the team’s name is Throttle Stop Racing). There were dire predictions on the weather through the mid Atlantic states Snow Cold etc. The worst problem  I had was I forgot my sunglasses. This time I drove out the day before, stay over night, went for my visit, and the drove back.

There may not appear to be many changes, and the changes are suttee, but required a great amount of work.

P2070021_small The bars around the top edge of the chassis have been lowered

.The most obvious place to see this is on the engine plate. Note the difference between the left left picture below and the right picture. In the right picture the plate is sitting on the chassis and in the left picture it is spaced up.

This adds room to the weed burner exhaust I want to run, adds some aesthetic value to the chassis, but does create an oil filter adapter problem

By lowering the top tube it now crosses directly in front of where the oil filter adapter would be bolted on. I will be using a remote filter. The solution will be to create an adapter block to bring the oil lines straight out the front, this is good as that is where the filter will be mounted anyway.

Below is a general walk around the chassis, take note that the lower rails are now moved inboard of the upper rails, that the whole chassis is arched like a bridge, and yes the seat is carbon fiber. The rear end housing is the one that will remain in the chassis.
Wheel base has been settled on as 200″. This is because with the chute pack body the over all length of the car would not fit into the trailer or the garage.

P2070035_small  Note the bungs welded into the chassis to pass wires through. Keith’s attention to detail is GREAT.

Note the arch of the chassis.

Hint,  this picture will help you ID the displacement of the engine (see the next frame of text below).

Here is a test for you, this is a Pontiac engine block, you can identify the size of the displacement from the pictures shown, but it is not easy. Only a true Pontiac person will catch the clue that will allow the worthy Pontiac person to Id the displacement. Your guess?

Note that on this side room has been letf to run computer cables through the frame.

It looks like I will be making one more trip out to see the dragster before Roo Man heads off to Famoso Dragway Bakersfield, Ca for the March 5 – 7 meet. He has a big push on to get his FED finished for the meet.
